What is CORBON?
CORBON means COUNCIL OF REGISTERED BUIDERS OF NIGERIA. It was established by Act Cap No. 40 (formerly known as Decree No. 45 of 1989), and now established by BUILDERS REGISTRATION ACT CAP. B13 LFN 2004.
What does CORBON stand for?
CORBON was established to regulate and control the practice of building profession in all its aspects and ramifications.
Who is a registered builder?
A registered builder is a person who has received an approved standard of professional training and practice in building and found competent after due examination and his/her name is entered into the register of the council.
Where are they trained?
Builders are trained in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology, where they obtain B.Sc or HND in Building Technology. In addition, they have to be a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Building (MNIOB).
What are the responsibilities of registered builders?
The Federal Government had approved within the professional scale of fees for consultants in the construction industry for Registered Builders to perform as consultants in the following responsibilities among others, Buildings, Construction, Project Management, Building Maintenance, Reactivation of abandoned projects, Building Survey Feasibility and Variability Studies, Litigation and Arbitration, Resident Supervision, Prime Consultancy, etc.
Can a builder write a brief?
The builders by their education and training can write a brief on building project during planning and execution processes.
Where can a registered builder be useful?
A registered builder could be useful in the following areas of human endeavors: Construction, Industry, Educational Institutes, Banks, Finance Houses, Insurance, Housing Corporation, Military Establishment, Oil Industry, three tiers of government and their agencies, etc.
How can a professional builder be engaged?
He could be engaged either as a consultant or employed as a full time registered builder in the area stated above.
What are the causes of building collapse?
Collapsed buildings occur as a result of shoddy work and usage of poor quality building materials as consequent of employment of non-professional to perform the management of building process.
How can a building collapse be prevented?
